As always, exercise is important even in the winter months! If there’s snow on the ground, check your pet’s paws for ice balls or injuries. Rinse feet off if your pet has walked where de-icers have been used. If your pet is having difficulty exercising due to depth of snow, slick icy surfaces, or appears to be winded, we recommend that you shorten the usual exercise times and monitor for any unusual signs. If you suspect that your pet has ingested any harmful toxins from de-icers or anti-freeze, please let us know immediately, so that we may advise you about what to do next.

Buster & The Letter L

Buster is a 16 year old Dachshund. Buster's human family were working on a project for school using magnetic foam letters. The letter L fell on the floor and Buster curiously investigated it and ingested it. Great Bridge Veterinary Hospital was happy to help. Unfortunately, all magnetic foam letters have since been taken out of Buster's home.
Did you know that dental care is an extremely important component of your pets overall health? More than 80% of dogs and cats over the age of three suffer from dental disease. Dental disease can lead to secondary conditions affecting your pet’s heart, liver and kidneys. Infected teeth and gum's are especially dangerous to your older pets. Our team provides comprehensive dental care including regular dental cleanings. Don’t forget that Great Bridge Veterinary Hospital is offering 15% off a dental cleaning in the month of February!

Dr. Harvey and Stacy had a wonderful time with the Boy Scout Troop on Wednesday! The troop asked great questions about how to properly care for pets. They even surprised Dr. Harvey and Stacy with their knowledge of the pet’s anatomy. Thank you for allowing us to inspire the young minds!

Pet of the Month

Ringo, the Akita-mix, is the patriarch of the bunch. He'll keep the two Bullmastiffs in line. If they refuse or dare to defy him, there WILL BE consequences, but nothing a few sutures won't fix (thank you Great Bridge Vet!!). And then there's Angus, a big red teddy bear of a boy. He weighs in at a delicate 130 pounds of pure love! But don't get him too excited; it'll be like Tommy Boy in the airplane bathroom! And let's not forget Roxy, a sweet little fawn princess...so cute with her undershot jaw and a tongue that's 5-times too big for her mouth! She's got her Mommy and Daddy (and Angus for that matter) wrapped around her little paw. She can do no wrong.

Now I ask you, who wouldn't just melt into a puddle over this motley crew...???

Valentine's Day Tip

Valentine’s Day is a day for romance and love, but don’t forget the hidden dangers to your pets in those wonderful boxes of candy. Chocolate is highly toxic and often fatal to both dogs and cats if ingested in large enough quantities. Candles can also be a danger to pets. Make sure that burning candles are set out of reach from your pet. Make sure your pets are safe as you celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Valentine's Day Tip

Mmmm…candy! But not for Fluffy! Chocolate, in all forms; is dangerous for both dogs and cats. The plastic or foil wrappers are dangerous if ingested. Make sure to keep pet treats at hand. When everyone else is enjoying the Valentine’s Day fun, let your pet in on the fun too! This will lessen the temptation to try to steal human treats. However, if you suspect that you pet has gotten into chocolate, or any other harmful substance; please call and we will guide you about what to do next. We care about your pet’s health.

LOOKING FOR A GREAT HOME!

Hi! I might have a funny name, but I am a serious purrer and companion.  My foster Mama calls me Little Girl because I am smaller than the beast that permanently lives with her.  My sister and I were abandoned a year ago and foster mom took us as a temporary measure, but there will soon be a dog moving in and neither me nor Sissy are claw ready for battle.  I am up-to-date on all of my vaccinations as well as spayed.  I am very vocal and loud when I purr. I love to sleep with you and have fat food aka fancy feast as often as possible because I am worth it.
Being with you in a warm, safe home with plenty of balls, string and other toys would be like Heaven for me.  I already know that Heaven is missing an angel because I AM HERE WAITING FOR YOU!!!  Please contact my mommy, Ms. Shew, at 757-482-4369.
Purrs and kisses  ~ Nowy

LOOKING FOR A GREAT HOME!

Happy Birthday to me!! I turned 5 today and am thrilled.  Foster Mama may give me tuna as a treat as I am a tiny girl and need lots of love on my skinny little bones. My sister and I did nothing wrong, but someone abandoned us at the vet and so we found a nice lady to love us until you can come take me with you forever.  I love to play and am very shy, but will eat like a piggy instead of a kitty. I am tortie in color from the top of my head to my toenails and very inquisitive.  My sister and I can go together or not as we are not litter mates, but shared the same home.
I am spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and declawed… so no outside living for me.  I am blowing out the cake and you can be the one to grant my one big true wish--a home and big bed with you!  Please contact my mommy, Ms. Shew, at 757-482-4369.
Purrs and kisses. ~Ezme
